Blue Exorcist, Vol. 3 - Kazue Kato Rin Okumura is the illegitimate son of Satan, but he and his twin brother, Yukio, have been raised by Father Fujimoto, a famous exorcist. Once he discovers the truth, Rin swears to defeat Satan by entering the famous True Cross Academy and becoming an exorcist himself. The only trouble is, he has to keep his demon heritage a secret or he stands a good chance of being destroyed by the very people he wants to join.

I don't want to give away much of the plot now it's getting further in the series, so I'll be brief. In this volume, Rin learns that there are higher powers at work - the Vatican, to be exact - and his training as an exorcist continues.

I enjoyed volume three about as much as I enjoyed volume two. As far as characterisation goes, Rin was explored a little bit more in depth and we saw a bit of his childhood. Also, a love triangle seems to be appearing between the twins and Shiemi, which could make for interesting conflict in future volumes. As well as that, a major new character is introduced who suffers from the big-boob cliché, but she has enough personality to be interesting.

This volume was quite fast paced, with quite a few action scenes. Once again, these were a little confusing and all over the place at times, but were an improvement on the ones from the first volume. Unlike the first two volumes, volume three also ended on a cliffhanger. This would have been annoying if I hadn't got volume four to hand, but, luckily for me, my little sister has up to volume seven so I'm not frustrated yet! It's a good tactic to make readers want to buy more volumes, but can be irritating for the reader, so be warned.

As usual, I recommend this to fans of action-orientated manga, but looks like there could be a little bit of romance on the horizon! We shall see. :)
